Free Christmas tree recycling offered by PNM and cities of Albuquerque and Rio Rancho

Albuquerque: PNM and the cities of Albuquerque and Rio Rancho are offering free Christmas tree recycling. More than 15,000 trees are expected to be recycled at the New Mexico sites, saving valuable landfill space and generating water-savings and protective mulch. 

Crews from PNM Vegetation Management, City of Albuquerque's Solid Waste Management Department and Rio Rancho's Keep Rio Rancho Beautiful Division will grind the trees into mulch, which can be used to provide a better growing environment for plants in city common areas and residential landscapes. The public can pick up free mulch from these trees at four of the five recycling locations while supplies last.

Trees must have all decorations removed (tinsel, lights, tree stands, etc.). Trees will be accepted at the following locations:

Albuquerque

Monday, Dec. 28, 2020  through Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021, from 8 am to 5 pm

  • Montessa Park Convenience Center, 3512 Los Picaros SE, Albuquerque
  • Eagle Rock Convenience Center, 6301 Eagle Rock NE, Albuquerque
  • Ladera Golf Course, 3401 Ladera NW, Albuquerque

Rio Rancho

Monday, Dec. 28, 2020  through Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021, from 8 am to 5 pm

  • Rio Rancho Sports Complex, 3501 High Resort Blvd. SE, Rio Rancho
  • Sandoval County Landfill, 2708 Iris Rd. NE, Rio Rancho (no free mulch at this location)

Limit five trees per resident. Commercial quantities will not be accepted. Only real trees will be accepted, no artificial trees. For more information call 311, TTY 711, or visit www.cabq.gov/solidwaste.

PNM will also be collecting donations for Animal Welfare at the Eagle Rock Convenience Center. Please consider bringing non-food donations for animals in need in our community. A special donation trailer will be parked at the Eagle Rock location during the entire treecycling event.
