What is PNM Power Pros?

We are excited to launch our new PNM Power Pros program in partnership with IBEW Local 611 at high schools within PNM service territory.

PNM Power Pros is an innovative, first-of-its-kind program that includes classroom time and hands-on training for high school students preparing for a technical career in the energy industry. The goal of the program is to develop a workforce for the future and innovation in the state.

Power Pros in the School

The Power Pros program is currently being offered at three high schools through out the state: ACE Leadership High School in Albuquerque, Silver High in Silver City and Tularosa High School in Tularosa.

The semester-long program is funded by a $1 million fund from PNM. Upon graduation from PNM Power Pros, students will receive OSHA 10 certification and high school elective credits.

What is PNM's role in this program?

PNM created PNM Power Pros in partnership with the IBEW Local 611 and donated one million dollars to launch the curriculum in high schools throughout New Mexico. The program began in fall 2024 at ACE Leadership High School in Albuquerque, Silver High School in Silver City, and Tularosa High School in Tularosa. PNM Power Pros is preparing to launch in more schools across New Mexico next year.

What are the goal of PNM Power Pros?

The goal of the program is to develop a workforce for the future and innovation in the state. PNM Power Pros provide students with valuable skills that can support them on their journey in technical careers.

Why did PNM create this program?

The electric grid continues to modernize with new uses from electric cars, solar energy, wind energy, and many more. As we transition to a clean energy future, it is vital to engage and train young people in this industry. Their involvement is not just beneficial but essential, as they bring fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and the passion needed to drive sustainable advancements. Investing in students today ensures a brighter, cleaner, and more resilient energy future for all.

What will students gain from this program?

Upon completion the PNM Power Pros program, students will have access to OSHA 10 training, high school elective credits and knowledge about a career path that they otherwise may not know about.

PNM, IBEW 611 and New Mexico's public and charter schools have partnered to train the next generation of workers and professionals to support changes to the electric grid in the communities where New Mexicans live and work.

What is the ultimate goal of this program?

Our long-term vision is to establish a robust pipeline of skilled tradespeople who will drive innovation, support local industries, and contribute to a thriving New Mexico.

How long is the program?

The program is a semester long program.

My child does not attend one of the high schools that PNM Power Pros is partnering with, can they still participate?

Not currently. Right now, PNM Power Pros is limited to students at ACE Leadership High School in Albuquerque, Silver High School in Silver City, and Tularosa High School in Tularosa. We have plans to expand PNM Power Pros to other high schools starting next year.

Why don't you offer this to students at all high schools?

PNM is proactively seeking more high schools to implement PNM Power Pros.

How did you choose the three participating schools?

We reached out to a broad span of schools for this program, and ACE Leadership High School, Silver High School and Tularosa High School were the first three schools that elected to participate in the program.

My child has a GED Āæ will they be able to participate in PNM Power Pros?

No, this is for students that are currently enrolled in high school that offers program.

How can home-schooled students participate? If they can't, will they be able to?

The PNM Power Pros program is offered as an in-classroom, hands-on program.

When will it be offered to more high schools?

Our goal is to expand to four additional high schools in the 2025-2026 school year. Please have your school administrators complete the contact form at the bottom of this webpage.

What other high schools will PNM Power Pros be expanding to?

Our current plan is to expand to four additional schools in the 2025-2026 school year. We are currently working with school districts around the state and will announce the final schools before the 2025-2026 school year.

How many more high schools will you offer this program to?

Currently three high schools have implemented the PNM Power Pros program, it is set to expand to four more schools next school year.
