Heating Season Shut-Off Protection

PNM customers approved for assistance from LIHEAP (Low-Income Heating Energy Assistance Program) may also qualify for the New Mexico heating season moratorium.

What it means

Certain customers' electricity cannot be disconnected during the winter heating season from November 15 through March 15.

For heating season shut-off protection, if you are behind on your bill before November 15, you must contact us to set up a payment plan. If you do not make arrangements for that money owed before November 15, your service can still be at risk of being shut off. It's important to remember that customers with a past-due balance after March 15, could experience an interruption of their electric service if their bill remains past due.

If you qualify

  • You still must pay all charges for the energy you used during the heating season (November 15 through March 15).
  • You must keep making planned payments during the heating season.
  • The more you pay during the heating season, the less you will owe when the shut-off limit expires on March 15.
