Albuquerque Community Assistance Fair

PNM's Albuquerque Community Assistance Fair is a free, family-friendly event to help our limited-income community know about various resources available to meet basic & emergency needs. At the heart of the event, the PNM Good Neighbor Fund will help customers pay their electric utility bills and will be joined by the New Mexico Gas Company and the Bernalillo County Water Authority for water and gas bill assistance programs.

PNM and the City of Albuquerque have teamed up to host this annual event with more than 35 different agencies and organizations to offer informative community assistance resources available to limited-income individuals and families in the Albuquerque area.

City of Albuquerque staff will be on hand to answer your questions about city departments and city outreach services. Albuquerque Police Department, Explora, and Local community providers will also be on hand to provide information and answer your questions about:

• Medical assistance programs
• Food and clothing services
• Financial services
• Housing assistance services
• and much more!

PNM is proud to partner with New Mexico United and generate excitement about support for local nonprofits. We know that strong nonprofits are key to a thriving New Mexico and while delivering power is at the core of PNM, investing in our community is a critical piece of the company's values. PNM is funding 10 local nonprofits with 'The PNM PowerKick' at New Mexico United home soccer matches. At halftime of each New Mexico United home game, a fan is selected to attempt three goals that could earn up to $2,500 for nonprofits.

Halloween decorating safety tips

Halloween decorations are creeping into neighborhoods across New Mexico. PNM has some simple tips to keep your homes and families safe from scary electrical hazards:

• Always look up and look out for power lines when decorating outside and stay at least 10 feet away from them. Only use decorations rated specifically for outdoor use.
• Do not place light strands or electrical cords into trees or vegetation near power lines and never place anything on utility poles.
• Only use lights that have been safety tested and approved by Underwriters Laboratory (UL). Look for the UL label on the box and on each string.
• Do not carry ladders while extended and carry them horizontally to avoid potential contact with overhead power lines.
• Use LED candles instead of regular candles to avoid potential fires.
• Keep electric cords out of high-traffic areas where people or pets can trip or become entangled.
• Make sure extension cords are in good condition, and check lights for broken sockets, frayed cords, or faulty plugs. Replace any damaged strings.
• Don't staple or nail through light strings or electrical cords, and do not attach cords or lights to metal objects.
• Cords should be plugged into outlets equipped with ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs). GFCIs protect you from electric shocks.
• Always unplug lights before going to bed or leaving your home.
