Western Interconnection Synchrophaser Program (WISP)
The Western Electric Coordinating Council (WECC) is a regional organization responsible for promoting broad electric system reliability. It provides an environment for coordinating operating and planning in most of the Western United States.
The project includes installing and coordinating synchrophasors on the member utilities transmission grid. Together, these synchrophasors sample the system up to 30 times per second and can identify and analyze system vulnerabilities in real time. This early warning mechanism enables the Western Electric Coordinating Council and the Western Interconnection Synchrophaser Program partners to take timely actions to help avoid potential future widespread system blackouts.
You can learn more about the Western Interconnection Synchrophaser Program at the WECC website.
